The dice of God are always
loaded. The world looks like a multiplication-table, or a mathematical
equation, which, turn it how you will, balances itself. Take what figure you
will, its exact value, nor more nor less, still returns to you. Every secret is
told, every crime is punished, every virtue rewarded, every wrong redressed, in
silence and certainty. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
I stubbed my toe and someone
asked me what I had thought to cause that. After all, I speak often about the
Law of Mind in action and of thoughts as causes, which result in conditions. The
person who has lost or gained a fortune may have never specifically thought of
that occurrence yet discovers the circumstance exists and wonders how. In my
case, I was thinking but my toe stub occurred as a return for paying attention
to my thoughts rather than my path.
We create our world with our
thoughts driven by our feelings. The more passionately we feel, the more
powerfully we move in the direction of our unfolding thoughts. As Emerson
points out, our karma is self-made and depending on our intention and degree of
attention, our karma reveals itself as either compensation or retribution. The “dice
of God” may be loaded but we cast them with every act of mind or body.
The acts of mind are always
thoughts. We may mediate, contemplate, pray, suggest, curse, or bless and we
always receive the results of our thinking returned to us in the same measure
as we give or more so if we expect so. Paul in a letter to one of the early
churches told them to pray without ceasing. Prayer is a movement of thought and
our thoughts are always moving, so we are always praying. If we desire the
prosperous life then we must think prosperous thoughts and excluding no one, we
must include all for our own good.
The major challenge we face is
the rote inattentive manner of most of our thinking. We react with thoughts
that on inspection, we probably would not choose yet, because we have created
habitual reactions, we miss opportunities to think healing or prospering
thoughts as responses. Living mindlessly, almost sleepwalking is our reason for
feeling victimized by circumstances.
No one does it to us. God doesn’t
punish us. The automatic response to our thought is the activity of a Law that
knows how to give us what we claim whether we claim deliberately or
inattentively. Law never asks why. It doesn’t care because that would give it
the power to say “no.” Can you imagine electricity refusing to work for any reason?
What about gravity? While we walk down the street, gravity says to itself, “I
quit.”
Nature guarantees return. Compensation
or retribution is our own choice. The “goes around” always “comes around.” Not
because we accumulate lifetimes of baggage or even a lifetime of baggage but
because that is the nature of things. If we want a prosperity return, we must
choose it, and so think and live so that prosperity is all that we see, think,
give, and accept.
I turn to the Infinite and
knowing that what I see is what I get, I deliberately choose to see my world as
working for my and providing me life, love, and freedom as I live creatively
and express fully my awareness of the divinity of us all and so it is.

“First
you ask definitely for direction, then it will enter your consciousness as a
definite thought; then in your turn you give it back the thought and it will
give you back the thing. It answers every question, solves every problem; it is
the solution to every difficulty.” Ernest Holmes
