Happiness is a state of well-being or enjoyment of good of any kind. …. In
metaphysics, it means a state of inner peace, a consciousness of the Goodness
of God and the beneficent attitude of the Universe, a realization that joy can
come to every man. It has a definite effect on mind, body, and affairs. –
Ernest Holmes Science of Mind
Have you ever known someone who
seems to have it all yet spends most of the time worrying about losing what
they have? They work long hard hours, fuss over their diets, imagine
unfaithfulness, and generally make themselves and everyone they know miserable
in the process. If our feelings were not choices then no one could ever change
from sad to happy or from happy to sad. We would all be stuck in the mode of
feeling that we were born to by some insane dole of feelings from the universe.
So, these miserable people can choose to enjoy every moment of their
prosperity. Oh, by the way, so can you and I.
I know the truth of this because I was
one of those miserable souls who believed that no one really loved me, money
was made to be lost or forever used to pay for unshrinkable debt; and, nothing
could ever truly move me to believe that I could live freely and without
constant pain. Some of these beliefs took a long time for me to change.
Although I successfully modified my health to a point of only a rare sniffle
and I managed to marry a woman I love who still loves me. I carried a buried
fear of loss.
The loss never came. It just
loomed dark cloud like overhead. One day, I realized that I was practicing my
META against myself. I was vacillating between powerful expectation that my
word has power to direct Universal Mind or Law into action on my behalf and
almost equally powerful expectations that the forces of time, society, and
events conspired against me. I was praying to overcome a nameless evil that
stood between me and the joy I desired; and, which is rightfully inherent in
the Divine’s expression of human life. It was like living in the permanent
pressure of mental isometrics.
Universal Mind always does what
we tell it to do. It is the Law of Nature that supersedes and includes all
natural laws, which are neutral, plastic, and receptive to our use. For me as
for all people, the strongest belief, the greatest conviction wins the argument
and directs the energy of the Universe to get that done now. I decided at that
moment of realization to relax and enjoy what I have. The Universe now provides
me with abundant opportunity to relax and enjoy.
I have even adopted a slower pace
for my enjoyment. Mindfulness has been a major part of my practice and now, I find
that some moments seem to endure far beyond their sixty second allotment. I
find that these moments are the ones when I am so engrossed with the view, the
conversation, or even just driving that all else fades. Background ambiance
becomes muted as what I attend to becomes enriched with color, sound, and
serenity.
Now, I enjoy the gift of
prosperity and relax in the peace and gratitude that accompanies every
experience of my life. The Divine I Am as me blesses every moment with beauty
and richness as I flow with each moment. Today, I choose happiness and today,
the Universal Law agrees. I am happy, I enjoy my prosperity, and so it is.

“First
you ask definitely for direction, then it will enter your consciousness as a
definite thought; then in your turn you give it back the thought and it will
give you back the thing. It answers every question, solves every problem; it is
the solution to every difficulty.” Ernest Holmes
