We desire freedom and liberty
without license; we want unity without uniformity, and the exaltation of
ourselves without in any sense changing or reducing our concept of God. We want
to recognize the God within us, without limiting the God that is within
everything. And we must have a direct line of communication between the
individual and the Universal.

Universe and You
I pledge allegiance to my flag
and the republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with
liberty and justice for all. ― Francis
Bellamy, 1892
I have been thinking about
purchasing a new car. In the past, I would think of a modal and make then
discover that they were everywhere. Now, almost all new cars look alike. They
are all somber understated colors, or black or white with similar
fuel-efficient body styles. Only the emblems are unique but even the emblems
are of similar size and with enough similarity that only a real fan can tell
which is which while zipping along the freeway.
I was delighted to see the return
of bright print dresses again until I
realized that this is now a new uniform of women’s fashion, dictated by a few
designers and their critics. Emerson said that to be a man we must be a nonconformist;
so, during the sixties and early seventies we all nonconformed in the same way.
A political commentator recently spoke of the closed minds of nonjudgmental
people because after all if we do not judge then we must all see the same
thing. Right?
The liberty and justice for all
that I celebrate is the result of a revolution that freed us from a tyranny of
foreign rule and of severe punishment for not following a particular religious
teaching in a particular place. It speaks nothing of the license to oppress
anyone or any religion or of enforced conformity to fashion or custom. It is a statement
of joyful acceptance of self-rule and freedom of choice, which is the brand
slogan of this country we call the United States.
What are we doing with our
freedom? We are all unique creations of the One, with all of the power and
freedom that includes. We create our future with our dreams and the words we
use to declare our dreams into form, which move infinite Power into action to
make our thoughts, words, and images into things and experiences. What are we
dreaming that turns out uniformity rather than a unity of unique individuals
living in harmony with each other and with the Universe that contains us?
I accept my freedom as birthright
of my spiritual nature. My liberty is in my choices, which Spirit guides and
honors no matter what my environment, politics, or humane genetics. My liberty
is my ability to accept a greater wisdom, greater life, and greater wealth from
God knowing that no matter ow much I receive, there is infinitely more for
everyone else. I live with gratitude that life of unity and freedom and so it
is.

“First
you ask definitely for direction, then it will enter your consciousness as a
definite thought; then in your turn you give it back the thought and it will
give you back the thing. It answers every question, solves every problem; it is
the solution to every difficulty.” Ernest Holmes
