That native faith within, which we call intuition is the
direct impartation of Divine Wisdom through us. – Ernest Holmes Living the
Science of Mind
Intuitively we sense that every person, in his native state,
is some part or manifestation of this Eternal Principle, and that the entire
problem of limitation, evil, suffering and uncertainty is not God-ordained, but
is the result of ignorance… the bondages of humanity must be a result of our
ignorance of the true nature of Reality. – Ernest Holmes Ebell Lectures on
Spiritual Science
Have you ever just known
something without knowing how you know? Beyond the idea that we might have
heard about it somehow, somewhere but have since forgotten, exists an awareness
of existence, or if impending that moves us into action. History contains too
many accounts of synchronicity and anticipated events deliberately entered into
or avoided by individuals who, just knew” what was about to occur.
The expression, “My gut tells me…”
we now consider as scientifically accurate after studies by neuropsychiatrists.
We seem to possess a physical response system that forewarns us that uses the
nerves around the gut to trigger our mental awareness of impending events. What
if we all learned to trust this implicitly?
Intuition is beyond response to
physical sensory input. However we can move ourselves closer to trusting
intuition as a guide by developing mindfulness in the same way an advanced
martial artist learns to read, sound, movement, even the breathing and facial
expressions of his or her opponents and reacts almost simultaneously with
appropriate movement for defense or countermeasure when in competition or
combat. Our environment and those we relate to inform us in subtle manner of
their intentions, which we may read for our benefit.
Intuition is a potent form of
inner wisdom that is not teachable but which we can master by tuning into our
body’s responses to internal and external stimuli. To begin, when you think
something is about to happen, notice how you feel and what you think will
happen and write both down in a pocket notebook. Record dreams that seem to you
to be prophetic and any hunches that come throughout the day. But be sure to
note your physical feelings as well as your thoughts. When what you predict or
something close to what you predict appears, note that too, and note how you
feel in that moment. Soon you will develop the skill of reading your feelings
with trust and access the inner wisdom of your intuition.
The Divine within me informs me
through my senses as my inner wisdom, which guides me to know at least
simultaneously but often before an event occurs so that I make my most
appropriate response. This is my intuition actively prospering me. It is as
natural and normal as seeing, hearing, and touching but because it relies on
the reality of one Mind common to all it is independent of time and space. I
learn to trust it implicitly and it always shows me my highest and best action,
which I follow.

“First
you ask definitely for direction, then it will enter your consciousness as a
definite thought; then in your turn you give it back the thought and it will
give you back the thing. It answers every question, solves every problem; it is
the solution to every difficulty.” Ernest Holmes
