We believe in the control of conditions through the Power of
this Mind.
– Ernest Holmes Principles of
Religious Science
When I first heard this
principle, a very zealous friend had just demonstrated a new situation. He
enthusiastically spoke of treatment, demonstration, and acceptance; however,
his new situation came about through a new acquaintance when he had quit
looking for results. As an avid science fiction fan, I thought in terms of
telepathy and telekinesis.
While more than coincidence, the
events were all natural and logical results of earlier thoughts and actions.
My friend had just the right experience at just the right time after someone
had unexpectedly quit only a few days earlier. Job markets were tight and jobs
like this were rare, so the whole thing looked like a miracle. It was. A
miracle is an ordinary natural event that occurs when we are giving
extraordinary attention to our desired result and to the complete exclusion of
anything contrary to that result.
I do believe that there is only
one Mind so there is only one Power of Mind. I also know that all thought is
powerful in moving Mind to produce what we think about often and with intensity
of feeling. Job’s, “That which I greatly feared has come upon me.” is a vital
valid warning to turn from the evil we would not to the good of God, which is
spiritual and which uplifts and sustains us.
We control conditions when our
thoughts move us into direct action that is, when we consciously act to make
something happen. We also control conditions with our thoughts when we allow
our thoughts to become a continuous background program in our mind that alerts
us to act exactly when the time is right. This second way is a product of
hypnosis or habitual autosuggestion to respond in a consistent way.
What is not so quickly explained
is the synchronicity of people, unknown to each other, or at least unaware of
the other’s intentions, coming together in unexpected ways or places as when I
discovered my uncle in a market hundreds of miles from either of our homes and
years after we had seen each other. Neither knew the other would be vacationing
but I had set an intention weeks earlier to contact him and other of my father’s
family without creating a plan for doing so.
One aspect of this Mind control
of conditions that I am clear about, is that when I set an intention, I must
accept that the results are certain. Whether I know how or not, I must also open
myself to receive the results I claim and remain free and flexible enough to
act on indications of success even when those actions may seem inconvenient or
illogical. This release to the action of Mind Power informs me that something
powerful is happening because of my thought and it is always correct.
Now, with high expectation,
dedicated intention, yet low attachment to the way it comes, I claim and accept
that my complete financial freedom and my wonderful new home flow to me now in
perfect wonderful ways and so it is.

“First
you ask definitely for direction, then it will enter your consciousness as a
definite thought; then in your turn you give it back the thought and it will
give you back the thing. It answers every question, solves every problem; it is
the solution to every difficulty.” Ernest Holmes
