Desire Intend Attend Achieve Receive

Last year I desired to visit a resort near Mt. Hood in Oregon. I intended to be there on a specific date, for a specific length of time, and to leave on a specific date. This intention required attention to details such as roads and road conditions, lodging along the way, finances for travel and enjoyment on my journey to and from my destination as well as during my stay. I achieved my end through planning, arrived at every stop, and received full enjoyment from my trip and the pleasure of all the beauty I saw along the way.

Whatever we desire, unless we intend to have it, we are merely daydreaming. When we are sincere in both our desire and our intention, it is easy to attend to all of the actions and details necessary for us to achieve our end and receive our desire. We miss many of the wonders and beauties of life because when they come to mind instead of intending to enjoy them we decide that they are too far, too hard, too expensive, or impossible. When I was a teen, my uncle invited me to see a world fair but I was afraid that it was too costly and that I would be a burden so I said “no.” I did not know that he was a millionaire and even if I had known, I felt at that time that it was all too much trouble.

I am certain that many have had similar experiences. What wonder we miss for want of belief? There are many more experiences to choose from than we possibly could experience so how do we know when to go for it and when to let it slide. I believe in the guiding principle of intuition, which is direct knowing from the Mind of Spirit and that when we intend to know, we do know and we know that we know.

Perhaps the heading on this page would be better as a large circle in which we could start reading from any of the words listed. We might attend to what we receive and intend to desire more of the same as we achieve the fruits of our previous intentions. My point is that life experience is an upward spiral of constant desire, intention, attention, etc. Sometimes it seems as if what we desire and what we receive are opposing each other. This is because our intention and our attention are unsynchronized. A ship or plane requires a compass heading to reach its desired destination.  That is intention. As the ship or plane travels, the pilot and navigator trim the rudder and maintain precise attention to keeping on the heading. Many currents of wind or water may cause the vessels to deviate from course but the attention to staying on intention brings them through to achieve the proper dock or landing and receive their next destination.

We are like the ship and the plane in that we must select a heading; keep on the course through attention in order to arrive at our desire. Considering the millions of seemingly conflicting crosscurrents and events, it is astounding at times, that anyone ever does achieve and receive. That we do is testimony to our inner spiritual navigation system, which if we program it right by our affirmations and treatments, acts as an autopilot to keep us moving in the right direction.

At any time, we may deliberately call upon this internal guidance by declaring that we draw from infinite Wisdom personal divine guidance. We may directly know what is that highest and best possibility for our lives and knowing, trust implicitly that the Divine achieves it for us by working in as and through us.

Every spiritual discipline, every theology, and every form of natural wisdom presents some technique for tapping into Wisdom. Some refer to intuition as lightening fast logic. Others call upon gods or demigods or use instruments such as Tarot cards, tealeaves, coins, or yarrow stalks to create a pattern from which they may “read” the wisdom. The instinct in most animals is intuition at a primitive level. At Centers for Spiritual Living™, We use a technology known as visioning, which involves recognition of the Infinite as Source for all knowledge, conscious union with that Source, precise questions, and a sincere and grateful acceptance and acknowledgement that we have received the wisdom. We do this process in a deep meditative and receptive state of mind.

Denial that Wisdom responds to desire and intention is foolish and ignorant. Too many people from before history, all through history, and the present have successfully known intuitively the right course of action or right people to rely on to consider intuition impotent. At the same time, requiring that we contact Wisdom in any rigid form, by any special ceremony or sacrament, or according to set religious law is superstition at best and unscrupulous manipulation at worst.

Spirit or God, whatever we call It/Him/Her, is always available immanently to all and responds to all according to their willingness, belief in, and ability to receive. Therefore, we desire an intimate relationship with Spirit. We intend that relationship for universal good. We attend to every detail that brings us into awareness of this relationship. We achieve a rapport with Spirit and we receive persistent understanding, divine guidance, wisdom, and insight into our nature and the constant Presence.
