"Remember that the best relationship is one in which
your love for each other exceeds your need for each other." – Dalai Lama
All human life is relationship with God as all other life
and manifestation. Vacuum isn’t. Inter and intra- connection is. From before
birth to pick your destination, we relate to family, friends, community, those
we serve, and those who serve us. Even the ancient hermit monks related with
their desert or mountain refuges.
Isolation is impossible because we are all one of God,
expressed in unique splendor. Whether we experience harmony or dissonance in
our relationships, the fact is that they are ours and we are theirs. Ultimately,
the way we relate is a matter of choice. Through spiritual practice we may
choose the qualities of our relationships, reject the relationships that do not
serve but we may never demand a relationship with any particular person for
that would enslave both parties, the one we demand and our own individual self.
Our first relationship is with our ego self, which is really
our divine self or Spirit personified as our identity. We examine this
relationship daily in order to create the foundation of all of our other
relationships. The greatest relationships are the ones we attract to us because
of our self-understanding and our desire to know people of like mind. We can
create within ourselves a mental or spiritual prototype for successful fulfilling
relationships through a simple process of:
·
Stating what we desire to experience from others
by describing their desirable qualities, characteristics, and attributes
·
Knowing clearly what creative expression is our
purpose in life – what makes us tick or what really winds our watch
·
Deciding what we want others to expect of us but
with the emphasis on how their expectations fit with the lifestyle we desire to
lead.
·
Finally, by deciding who we need to be in order
to enjoy another in a particular relationship, such as friend, lover, teacher,
student, service provider, client, etc.
This process is a relaxed easy going approach without
attachment or addiction to any particular person or group so everyone remains
at choice.
There is another way to create perfect relationships. Love
everyone you meet. Know that we are all beneficial, innocent, and divine
expressions of Spirit. Delight in both the samenesses and differences in all
personalities. When we discover that we are attracted to or repelled by
another, we have the perfect opportunity to find another piece of our own
puzzle.
The real prosperity of relationships is in finding the
Presence within us all.
I see Spirit in every face and discover the Divine in every act.
I listen from my own oneness within Spirit and hear my deepest self taught to
me by every voice. We are all one Being as our many incarnations and everyone
is relative to our Absolute but then, so are we because that is how it is.
